How This Price Is Calculated
The price shown above is derived from the international 24K (999 purity) gold spot rate in US dollars, converted to your selected currency and re-based to a per-10-gram unit (most global markets quote gold per troy ounce; India and much of Asia quote per 10 grams). Rates refresh once daily. The figure is the raw spot-derived market estimate — it excludes GST, import duty, and jewellers’ making charges, which in India can add roughly 18–19% on top of spot for gold depending on the current customs duty and GST rate.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the gold rate today in India?
See the live price card above — it updates from the international USD spot rate converted to INR per 10 grams, refreshed daily.
Is this 24K or 22K gold price?
The headline price is 24K (999 purity). Use the karat toggle to switch to 22K, which is calculated as 24K price × 22⁄24 (≈0.9167) — 22K is not separately quoted market data, it is a fixed ratio of the 24K spot rate.
Does this price include GST and making charges?
No. This is the raw international spot rate converted to INR per 10 grams. Actual jewellery-counter prices add GST (currently 3%) and customs duty on gold, plus the jeweller’s own making charges, which vary by store and design.
Why does the gold price change every day?
Gold is priced continuously on international commodity markets, moving with US dollar strength, US interest-rate expectations, inflation data, central-bank gold purchases, and geopolitical risk. Since Indian prices are this global rate converted through USD/INR, currency moves also shift the local price even when the dollar spot rate is flat.
How is the gold price per gram calculated from the USD spot rate?
International spot gold is quoted per troy ounce. That ounce price is converted to your local currency using the current exchange rate, then divided by the number of grams in a troy ounce (about 31.1) and multiplied by 10 to get a per-10-gram figure.
Is the gold rate the same across Indian cities?
The underlying international spot rate is identical everywhere. Retail prices differ slightly city to city because of local jewellers’ association rates, transport costs, and making charges — but these differences are typically small relative to the spot price itself.
How does the USD/INR exchange rate affect gold price?
Gold is priced in US dollars globally. When the rupee weakens against the dollar, gold in INR rises even if the dollar spot price is unchanged, and vice versa — so INR gold prices reflect both the commodity move and the currency move.
Has gold historically trended upward over the long term?
Gold has broadly trended higher over multi-decade periods, though it moves through extended flat or declining stretches too. The 90-day chart above shows recent movement; check the Recent Price Movement section for a summary of the latest notable shifts.
What’s the difference between 22K and 18K gold?
22K is 91.67% pure gold (the rest alloy, typically for durability), commonly used for Indian jewellery. 18K is 75% pure and more common in Western fine jewellery. Lower karats are cheaper and more durable but contain proportionally less gold.
