How This Price Is Calculated

The price shown is the international platinum spot rate in US dollars, converted to your selected currency and re-based from troy ounces to a per-10-gram unit. Rates refresh once daily. As with silver, this is a raw spot-derived estimate excluding GST, import duty, and dealer premiums — platinum’s tax treatment tracks silver more closely than gold’s in most markets.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the platinum rate today?

See the live price card above for the current international platinum spot rate per 10 grams.

Why is platinum sometimes cheaper than gold despite being rarer?

Platinum is genuinely scarcer than gold in annual mine supply, but its price is dominated by industrial demand — mainly automotive catalytic converters — so it can trade below gold when industrial demand softens, even though it is the rarer metal.

What is platinum mainly used for?

The largest source of demand is catalytic converters in vehicle exhaust systems, followed by jewellery and industrial applications like glass manufacturing and chemical catalysts. Investment demand is a smaller share of the market than for gold or silver.

How does platinum price relate to the auto industry?

Because catalytic converter demand is such a large share of platinum consumption, shifts in vehicle production volumes and emissions regulations — and the pace of the shift toward electric vehicles, which use less platinum — directly move platinum prices.

How is the per-10-gram platinum price calculated?

The USD spot price per troy ounce is converted to your currency at the current exchange rate, then divided by ~31.1 grams per troy ounce and multiplied by 10.

Is platinum a good investment compared to gold?

Platinum is more industrially driven and historically more volatile than gold, with a price history that has diverged significantly from gold’s over the past decade. It’s a different risk profile rather than a direct substitute — this isn’t investment advice, just a description of how the two have behaved.
